To be honest, not every job in the electrical field is glamorous. Sometimes it’s piping in the blazing heat or pulling wire slowly one inch at a time. But for IPCO’s Jason Shipman, the work is only half the story. The people you’re with, that’s what makes the difference. Jason joined IPCO a little over a year ago and like many who’ve come through the doors, he noticed right away that this place felt different. “Other companies say they’re family-oriented, but IPCO actually means it,” he says. “From the first conversation I had with Brian, I knew I wanted to be part of this team.”
When asked about a job that stands out, Jason didn’t hesitate. “The project in Saluda. It’s been a little bit of everything from fun to rough. Rough because of the heat, but fun because you’re around good people.” The crew-powered culture at IPCO helps keep even the most challenging days moving forward.
One of his proudest projects was at Tesla at the Fox Hill Business Park, where he and one other teammate tackled the install of transformers, conduit, and wire pulling. “It was just the two of us,” Jason said. “It was slow-paced, and we really took our time to make sure everything was installed correctly. We had a lot of fun doing this project together on the job site, and in the end, everything turned out solid.” It’s that balance of precision and play that makes the job fulfilling.
Our Secret Sauce: People Who Make It Fun
Let’s not sugarcoat it––electrical contracting work is tough work. But according to Jason, “What we do isn’t always fun, but when you’re with good people, it always becomes fun. You get more done, and the day moves quicker.”
That’s one reason IPCO holds regular all-hands meetings at the shop or office. These meetings are part training, part team-building, and part cookout. “It brings everybody together,” Jason says. “We hang out, we eat, we learn, and we laugh. Before I was officially hired at IPCO, I could tell it was a great place to work.”
Learning Every Day, Leading Every Day
For Jason, one of the most rewarding parts of his time at IPCO has been the opportunity to learn and lead. “Every day’s different. You’re always learning. There hasn’t been one day where I haven’t learned something new.” By shadowing IPCO’s superintendents, Jason says he’s gained a better understanding of how to run a job site and manage a team. “I’ve become a better manager just from being around them. They don’t just tell you what to do, they show you and do it with you.”
As an experienced electrical apprentice at IPCO, Jason plays a vital role in the success of every job site. His work involves installing conduit, pulling wire, and reading blueprints. Apprentices at IPCO don’t just observe, they contribute. The job requires physical stamina, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn. Jason brings all of that to the table.
If you’re the kind of person who wants variety, challenge, and a crew that doesn’t take themselves too seriously, Jason says IPCO’s worth a look. “It’s not the same thing every day. It keeps you on your toes, and there’s always room to grow.”
At IPCO, we know not every day in the field is easy, but it can be fun when you’re with people who’ve got your back, know how to get the job done, and know how to laugh along the way.
